At what age can children visit ski and snowboard lessons?
We advise the participation in group lessons starting at the age of 3. We suggest children who are younger than 3 years of age to bookthe ELKI group course or a private lesson.
The recommended age for snowboarders is 8 years. In agreement an earlier start is possible.
How are the groups arranged?
The arrangement of the children takes place according to the information about the ability and experience of the children given by their parents. Our classifications are based on the guidelines of the Swiss Snow League. On our homepage you can find all the different levels with short descriptions and videos. If wrongly arranged, the group can be changed in agreement with the instructor.
Can wishes for the groups be considered (family, friends)?
The children will be put into groups by their ability, in the first place. If the children are on the same level it is possible to arrange them in the same group. Please make your wish on your first day of the group lessons with the respective teacher.
Does the ski lesson include the ski pass?
The ski pass is not inclusive of your ski class. The ski tickets for the skiing area can be purchased in the Tourist Office or in the bottom station of the Hannigalp gondola. Children under 6 years of age can ride for free. For the people who only accompany their children to the ski lessons, single trips are available. Furthermore, there is the possibility to obtain a beginner pass. Please provide information at the Tourist Office Grächen.
When does the ski race take place?
For the levels Snow Kids Village/ Snowgarden and Blue Prince the ski race is on Fridays within the ski lesson.
For all the other levels the guest race takes place on Thursdays. Anyone who dares to ski or snowboard the Paradiesli slope is welcome to participate in our guest race. This is available for people who are not taking any ski or snowboard lessons as well.
Where is the gathering place for the lessons?
The pupils for the group lessons gather 15 minutes before the official start of the lesson on top of the Hannigalp (top station). The levels are marked with the different signs. After the lesson the children will be picked up at the same place.
The meeting point for the private lessons is also at the Hannigalp. Please wait at the reserved time at the red Meeting Point of the Swiss Ski School.
What do I give my child for the first lesson?
- Complete up-to-date equipment (skis or snowboard, helmet, poles from "Blue Prince" or as instructed by the teacher)
- Ski clothing suitable for the weather (sunglasses/ski goggles, sun protection, dry gloves)
- Put the ski school ticket in the children's jacket pocket. (If you book online, you can print out the ticket at home and also put it in your jacket pocket or show the confirmation on your smartphone to the ski instructor at Hannigalp).
What else can I do to make it easier for my child to join the ski school?
- Is your child prepared for the temporary separation from their parents?
Leave your child alone with the group during the lesson to give the instructor a chance to familiarize themselves with your child. Observe the lessons from a distance so that your child's attention is on the teacher and not on the caregiver. - Be patient and give us time!
If you do not notice any progress in your child in the first few lessons, then give us and your child more time. It is important that your child gets used to the new situation on snow and the unfamiliar ski equipment. The joy of skiing/snowboarding is paramount. - Safety for your child:
Please ensure that there are no ribbons, scarves or similar in your child's way. We recommend tying children's hair up. - Share important information with the ski instructors:
Does your child have an illness or allergy (e.g. nut allergy)? Please let us know so that we can cater for any special needs. It is important that the responsible teacher is informed. - Punctuality
Bring your child to the meeting point early enough and pick them up on time. Please note that there may be waiting times at the Hannigalp valley station during the high season. The journey by train without an extraordinary stop takes 10 minutes.
